The question always comes up, “So what does your guys-ez band sound
like?” The simple honest answer would be nothing you’ve ever heard
before. But if you had to pigeon-hole this thing we do, The ATMA plays
an edgy, inventive, soulful breed of rock music.
This band is what happens when funk and punk go to bed with the
Super-unknown. Put Salvador Dali, The Pixies, Bob Dylan, and a
hurricane into a blender and that smoothie might taste something like
The Atma. That’s as close as you’ll get to a summary of our sound,
because this band’s music is as colorful as the people in it, and we
are all about originality.
Rocking the L.A. underground music scene since 2002, our trio has
just spent the year gigging in the wake of releasing our debut record,
“On My Artichoke.” The album itself is psychedelic romp through 15
radically diverse tracks featuring a wide variety of sound and meaning.
Songs such as the lighthearted “Pheremones” showcase the band’s funkier
side, while tracks such as “Idiots” reflect the grittier aspects of the
band’s musicianship.
Traces of everything from classic rock, 90’s alternative, reggae,
jazz, blues, swing, punk, and psychedelia are evident throughout, but
don’t believe us, go hear it for yourself. Thus far, the record has
been warmly received by our fans and has garnered some positive reviews
in the indie music and online communities.
There is a lyric on the first album:
The drums will dance for those again
Who still believe in thunder
Perhaps this best describes the attitude and ambition of The
ATMA. We believe in the spirit and energy that’s behind all the great
inspiring music that we grew up listening to. Our dream is to put
something out there that is honest and original and to share it with
the world in a big way. We have worked hard to be a part of this band,
and we’d like to believe as we prepare to go into the studio and record
our next record, that the depth and intensity of our music reflects
that dedication.
Just how far we will go in the course of our career as a band no
one can say, but one thing you can expect from The ATMA is that we will
always pour everything we’ve got into every show we play, every jam we
jam, and every moment we are lucky enough to be a part it. Thanks for
taking the time to read about us and we hope to see you out there at
one of our shows, where we will be laying it down with 100%
balls-to-wall love for those who would come and listen.
Sayonara-Adios,
The ATMA
